IT'S TIME TO END FREE FARES ON THE FREE CRIME BUS
What will it take for Mayor Regina Romero and the Tucson City Council to finally say enough is enough when it comes to the city’s bus system and failed experiment of free transit? It is not “ludicrous” to say that crime is tied to free transit — it’s a reality.
The proof happened again this week: A Tucson bank robbery suspect escaped on a bus.
Click on video below.
For more than two years, the The Tucson Crime Free Coalition has been calling on city elected officials to reinstate bus fares. In that time, countless lives have been impacted by bad decisions made by the mayor and council.
The list of crimes connected to the bus system is long — and growing every day:
● Hatchet attacks
● Shootings
● Stabbings
● Rampant fentanyl and other deadly drugs on buses and at bus stops
● Bank robbery with getaway via the bus
● Countless business thefts with criminals escaping on buses
● Drivers attacked
● Innocent riders assaulted
● Children attacked
● Women raped
The millions of taxpayer dollars spent to keep buses “free” is staggering — as is the time wasted in meetings while Tucson residents pay the price in safety.
We are calling — again — for common sense:
• Reinstate fares for those who can afford them, with reduced or free fares for those who truly need it
• Add security officers on buses and at bus stops
This won’t solve every problem, but it will start reducing the use of our bus system as a tool for criminals. Buses should be for people going to work, school, or other legitimate destinations — not as free transport for those committing crimes across our city.
This week, instead of addressing the real issue, the city is placing rocks at certain bus stops to “deter drug use.” Click for video

A couple days after the rock placement began, a suspect was caught on video throwing a rock through a business window — just another example of criminal behavior that has been plaguing businesses for years. And now the city is adding to it. Click below to watch.
Tucson businesses and residents are at a breaking point!

What a mess!!!!! We need TO FIRE ROMERO AND HER COMPATRIOTS!
Tucson is an absolute mess. We came back from summer vacation and out of all of the big cities we saw over the summer Tucson was by far the worst in regards to open drug use, homelessness and outright anarchy. Terrible leadership.
thank you to this group. We have been looking at this newsletter today at my work and all agree on what you are saying. Much of us are people that would not vote but have been following what you are proofing true and we will vote for changes. so many at my work ride the scary bus and it is very bad. this is some of our only way to get to work and this is not good. one friend quit working here because it was to bad on the bus.
One of my friends rode the bus to and from work for DECADES. But last year, she was finally fed up with being harassed on the bus and being followed home from her stop. So, she bought a car.
In this case, all of that “get people out of their cars” rhetoric got mugged by reality.
BTW, my friend really likes her new car.
So let me be very clear here…the CoT is putting rocks behind the bus stops in certain places. Not giant boulders. Rocks that can be picked up and used as a weapon to bash heads in. Great idea!!! How about we just allow a Byrna self defense weapon in every riders( law abiding) hand? Jesus, does anyone in city hall have a freaking brain? Wait I already know the answer….NO.
