One Christmas when I was about 8 years old, my father was out of work. We had been living in a teeny house with a $30 a month rent, but my father couldn’t also pay the electric bill, so we had been without power for about 3 months. My parents were too embarrassed to ask for help. Someone told the priest at our church about our situation, & he personally went to the electric company & paid the bill out of his own pocket, then showed up at our door with a box of food. I already knew I wasn’t getting any Christmas presents that year, & understood why, but in that food box were 3 wrapped gifts for me: a jump rope, a thin coloring book, & a box of 8 crayons. To this day, at the age of 69, that was the best Christmas I ever had. These toy drives may seem unnecessary in the face of the greater needs, but they mean the world to a child who won’t be getting anything for Christmas. If you have the means to donate, please do!

TCFC members, this is a great cause and Gilbert Ibarra is a treasure to the community. Stop by any Lucky Wishbone to donate, you will see the large decorated bins in the lobby.
