"Call to the Public" has been an important tool to the Tucson Crime Free Coalition in its mission to urge action of our elected officials and raise awareness of the crime and fentanyl crisis in Pima County.  Call to the Public has raised awareness of this critical issue affecting everyone regardless of political affiliation.  There is no other way for every citizen to participate. Supervisor Bronson, a Democrat, and Supervisor Christy, a Republican, have been a cornerstone of our non-partisan, supportive movement.

“To suppress expression is to reject the basic human desire for recognition and affront the individual’s worth and dignity.” — Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall.

The easiest resolution to this bad public policy is for the Board of Supervisors to remove this item from the agenda and get on with the real work of running our County.  Listening to concerns or views some might not agree is what we pay them for.  They have the time to listen.

AGAIN, we are paying them!

It's easy to voice your opinion and support TCFC's mission by sending the Board of Supervisors an email using the instructions below.  Emails must be sent by 5pm on Monday 6/6/2023.  Please email now, build momentum, and forward to at least two friends or family members!!

STEP 1: Copy as a whole, all the email addresses below and paste in the TO: line of your email.

Chair Adelita Grijalva <District5@pima.gov>; Supervisor Scott <District1@pima.gov>; Supervisor Heinz <District2@pima.gov>; Supervisor Bronson <District3@pima.gov>; Supervisor Christy <District4@pima.gov>;  Clerk of the Board <COB_mail@pima.gov>; help@tucsoncrimefree.com

STEP 2: Copy and paste this text into the subject line of your email:

Please Remove from the Agenda OR vote "NO" on Item #19 on June 6th, 2023

STEP 3: Copy, paste this text below in the email. Edit as you wish. SEND!

Dear Supervisor,

Regarding Item #19 on the June 6th, 2023 meeting agenda:

As your constituent, I believe the “Call to the Public” should not be limited or changed in any way, much less as described in Agenda Item 19. Freedom of Speech and the ability of people to address you, the Pima County Board of Supervisors - our elected representatives - on the record, is an integral part of public meetings and not a frivolous matter. The existing policy should not be changed. Doing so will be seen as yet another attempt to silence your constituents’ voices.

Please Remove from the agenda OR vote “NO” on this item.

Received this email on Thursday but was present at the meeting on Tuesday to observe the proceedings. The current figuration on the BOS is a sad sack of public servants taking our $ who care not for us. I liked Tom’s comments to the BOS problem – a lot! While it’s important to hear what they say and what they do w/ our taxes, and while working to vote these entities out of office and replace them, we would serve ourselves greatly w/ a parallel system of governance locally that attends to the real issues in our community. Neighborhood-based solutions. Enough of the b.s. merry-go-round full of clowns who pretend to listen.

This is a second go ’round with this stupid stuff.

“Stop the Pima County Supervisors from taking away our right to be represented on Feb 7th.”
They voted to table it a few months ago.

Waiting for the uproar to quiet serves them. People move on thinking it was solved.
We all knew this would happen.

Hard not to get spun up about the BS.

It’s amazing how stupid this BOS is. Allowing someone to speak for 2 or 3 minutes, freely. After someone has spoken, they feel as if they have accomplished something, feel satisfied, and will probably just go on back home feeling happy and content, when, in actuality, nothing has been changed. The tyrannical situation continues. The despots remain in power. Nothing changes.
But by curtailing someone’s speech, it only causes the speaker to, perhaps, take matters to the next level. When people realize that their 2-3 minutes at the podium is a pretty much useless endeavor, they may seek other means to get their message across. If things can’t be satisfied peacefully, if you cut off that avenue of recourse, what recourse is left?
Most people have great ideas, but they are lost on the BOS who are either ignorant, brainwashed or intentionally attempting to destroy our community.
Why not have the speakers rejected by the BOS start their own website or twitter page where they are allowed to speak and critique the BOS? It could be a GOP website? Rather than watch these people on the County website play games with our system, let’s review and critique their performance? What stops us from streaming live a commentary?
What would the reaction be if the BOS was ignored? If no one listened to them? If no one showed up?
